Paul Goldsmith, an iconic determine in American inventory automotive racing, has died. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway confirmed Goldsmith’s demise on Friday. He was 98.
Goldsmith was born in West Virginia. After initially racing bikes, Goldsmith ultimately made the change to auto racing. However, he had success in each domains.

Goldsmith then moved over to the auto racing facet in 1956 when he entered his first NASCAR races. He went on to earn 9 wins and eight pole positions within the NASCAR Grand Nationwide Sequence, which is now generally known as the NASCAR Cup Sequence.

Goldsmith can even be remembered for being the ultimate winner of the NASCAR premier-series race on the seminal Daytona Seashore and street course in 1958. His success was largely tied to 2 legendary automotive house owners, Smokey Yunick and Ray Nichels.
Goldsmith competed within the Indianapolis 500 on six events. His finest efficiency within the race occurred in 1960 when he completed in third place.
Other than his achievements on the observe, Goldsmith left a long-lasting mark on American motorsports by being on the forefront of know-how.
